Anxiously Awaiting School!

So I'm anxiously awaiting our curriculum's arrival. I was so excited when I saw a package waiting at my house today. Unfortunately it was not our curriculum. Hopefully just a few more days! I was very excited to find a book I've been searching for to use with our curriculum on EBay this morning! Someone just put up today! I'm the high bidder so hopefully it stays that way!

I've totally gotten addicted to Teacher Supply Stores. I actually found a new one yesterday that I had never been to before. It had a couple things I had been looking at for better prices so that was awesome! I got a fun little workbook for Emma with a bunch of different activities from Hidden Pictures to Dot to Dots to Mazes. She thought it was pretty cool. I picked up some cute pencils and pencil toppers which she was really excited about. She loves new pencils! ;)

We released our Praying Mantis today. About 2 hours later I was helping a friend do yard work and found 2 more. I honestly have only seen a Praying Mantis once or twice before so it surprised me to find 3 in just a couple of days. Emma and I are looking forward to having both an Ant Farm and a Butterfly House this year to go along with our science. She's been asking to get a Butterfly house forever so she is thrilled that we are finally going to do it. I'm sure Ella will enjoy it as well. She is such a smart little thing so I'm planning on doing the MFW reading curriculum with her. She already knows her letters and letter sounds so I figure I might as well teach her to read while I continue working on it with Emma. I'm excited to be able to do some of the stuff with both of them. It will be some nice family time!

I got my copy of Zoo Guide a few days ago (also purchased on EBay!) and love it! I can't wait to take it with us to the zoo. I think its awesome that they have free supplementary activities on their website to use along with it. I think the girls will love it. Emma is very passionate about animals, especially endangered species. She wants to save them all. That is one of the things we are going to focus on in our schooling...animal preservation. I think its very important as well as environmental protection and awareness.

Maybe in my next post I will list my goals for our school. I have some things on my list that I don't think everyone always thinks of that I think are essential to a good education for my girls.

Until then...goodnight!

So this is my first foray into both blogging and home schooling. Hopefully both will go nicely over the next year! After months of researching curriculum, figuring our my learning/teaching style, Emma's learning style, the best approach for us and hours meticulously planning out our goals for this school year I think we are ready to get started. I've ordered our Kindergarten curriculum from My Fathers World. It shipped out today. I cant wait to get it so I can start planning and figure out what we still need. I'm hoping that we are going to love it! I'm a bit nervous about trying to home school on my own. It seems like most home school families are traditional families with a married mom and dad both bringing something to the table. I'm not sure how much help my ex is going to be or how much help I really want from him honestly! If we were married I don't know how much help he would have been anyway! ;) I'm sure it will go fine. I guess I will end with a couple things I found extremely helpful so far...

Cathy Duffy's 100 Top Picks book...it was sooooo great! I had no idea where to start and it helped me figure out EVERYTHING!!

EBay...tons and tons of new and used curriculum is being sold here every day! I bought mine brand new and saved a ton of money on EBay!

New Home School Orientation...going to this was absolutely invaluable. I got my first glance at some curriculum, including what I plan to use this year, and got all kinds of useful info from some veteran home school moms.

For now I guess that's it. I'm planning to post every day or so...hopefully people will stop by to read what I have to say!
